Mohawk Materials, originally Mohawk Rock and Sand, was founded in Sand Springs, Oklahoma in 1953 by Finis White. Initially Mohawk was primarily a rock and sand producer based on the banks of the Arkansas River. The company was purchased by Howard Waller in 1973. During Mr. Waller’s 10 years of ownership, the company grew to include the production and process of drying, screening and packaging industrial sands for the Sandblasting Industry, which is now known as the Surface Prep Industry. In 1976, Mr. Waller expanded Mohawk to include the manufacturing of packaged concrete products. In 1983, Howard sold the company to his son, Scott Waller and he developed Mohawk’s own brand of packaged concrete products known as Strong-Crete. The year 1992 brought another change to Mohawk Rock and Sand when Industrial Paint Sales in Tulsa was acquired. This company supplied equipment and coatings to the Surface Prep Industry. In 1994 the corporate office moved to its current location at 2521 Charles Page Boulevard near downtown Tulsa and changed the name to Mohawk Materials to reflect the ever-changing product lines of the company and also to open our first Surface Prep Supply Store. In 1997, in order to enhance the Strong Crete product line, Handi Sak, an Oklahoma City based packaged concrete producer was purchased by Mohawk Materials. This acquisition provided Mohawk a more efficient way of getting Strong-Crete products throughout Oklahoma and surrounding states. In 2017, Mohawk further expanded its surface prep equipment and coatings division with the acquisition of Anderson Sales/Blasting Specialties Company with locations in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Wichita, Kansas.
